Scott Anselm has been named senior account specialist — equipment segment for the American Rental Association (ARA). In this role, Anselm will interface with ARA’s equipment rental members and focus on growing this segment of membership.
Anselm is an Indiana native and alumnus of Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Ind., where he received a degree in education while playing on the school’s basketball team. His professional course ultimately steered him toward sales and business. Following his work in the oil and gas sectors, he served as general manager/director of North American sales for Mitsubishi Generators and Pumps for 12 years. It was through his role with this organization that Anselm’s introduction to the world of equipment rental took place.
“I was in engine, compactor, generator and pump sales, focusing mostly on the construction and lawn and garden markets, but also rental,” Anselm says. “Mitsubishi was an ARA associate member, and I did The ARA Show™ for 10 years for them, so I was familiar with what ARA was and what it did. I’ve since learned so much more about what ARA has to offer members, especially on the education and training side through platforms like RentalU.”
After parting ways with Mitsubishi, Anselm pursued opportunities outside of the construction/tool realm. After the door closed on one position due to circumstances stemming from the global pandemic, Anselm joined ARA which, coincidentally, is located near the community where he was residing.
As he returns to his equipment-driven roots, Anselm is enthusiastic about his new role with ARA and the chance to leverage his product knowledge and experience in forging partnerships with rental companies. “When I was in the rental market on the sales side, I really enjoyed getting to know the people, so I’m looking forward to making those connections again with ARA members. I have a well-rounded background with knowledge of equipment, parts, service and sales, and I like to be a resource to help businesses grow. I think that will translate over here at ARA.”
In his spare time, Anselm enjoys volunteering for local organizations, golfing, taking in his children’s sports activities and, for the past 30 years, coaching sports in a variety of capacities.
Anselm’s counterpart at ARA, Mary Moore Larick, joined the association staff in April 2021 and services the event segment of membership.
