The ARA Coronavirus Discussion Group on Facebook allows those in the equipment and event rental industry to discuss what’s going on in their businesses and ask questions to fellow members during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Each week, Rental Pulse will highlight a post from the week that garnered attention about a specific topic. This week’s post highlights an increasing popular topic throughout the country: Face mask mandates.
“Minnesota has a statewide mandate that begins tomorrow [Saturday, July 25] requiring masks be worn by employees of indoor businesses. Furthermore, it requires employees to wear masks when working outdoors when social distancing cannot be maintained. How have other rental houses handled these types of executive orders with their employees? I am conflicted because we have taken extensive measures to keep our employees socially distant since the beginning of the pandemic.”
This post has nearly 20 comments from other members of the group. These comments come from companies that have required masks since early on in the pandemic, those who have recently had state mandates and those without any formal requirements. Many of the suggestions say employees have been required to wear masks when inside and dealing with customers. When they have enough room to social distance away from customers or are outside, employees have been able to remove masks for comfort and due to high summer temperatures. In the comments, it is easy to see that all companies handle these mandates differently depending on company size, number of employees, location and rental segment.
