NER offers equipment security best practices for Fourth of July holiday week

Jul. 03, 2022

The latest data compiled by the National Equipment Register (NER®) on nationwide equipment thefts shows that nearly $7,050,000 in equipment is taken from more than 300 locations over the Fourth of July holiday.

The data lists worksites, dealerships and storage facilities as the top targeted locations by thieves, with utility vehicles, skid steers and mowers as the likeliest pieces of equipment to go missing.

As equipment fraud, conversion and “smash-and-grab” thefts continue to plague the equipment rental industry — especially during the summer months and over holidays — NER encourages those who work in the industry to be proactive in taking simple steps that can secure equipment and deter thieves. The company has provided a downloadable document outlining best practices to follow during the Fourth of July week.

Thanks to the American Rental Association’s (ARA) partnership with NER, members can register up to 1,000 pieces of mobile, off-road equipment with NER’s HELPTech database for free. Get started here.
