United Rentals recognized for hiring and retaining veterans

Nov. 21, 2021

United Rentals, Stamford, Conn., recently received awards as a leading employer of military veterans from five organizations, in recognition of the company’s achievements in hiring veterans and supporting their careers.

United Rentals has been awarded a HIRE Vets Gold Medallion by the U.S. Department of Labor for the company’s commitment to veteran hiring, retention, and professional development. The HIRE Vets Medallion Award is the only federal award recognizing exceptional achievement in veteran employment. By meeting the criteria required for a Gold Medallion Award, United Rentals “demonstrated both patriotism and recognition of the value veterans bring to the workplace,” according to the department.

United Rentals also was named to the “Top Ten” Military Friendly® Employers, ranking sixth overall among all companies. United Rentals also received awards in the Military Spouse Friendly Employers, Military Friendly Company and Military Friendly Supplier Diversity Program categories. In the awards program, Military Friendly measures an organization’s commitment, effort and success in creating sustainable and meaningful benefits for the military community.

Other veterans-related awards that United Rentals has received this year are:

  • 2021 Best for Vets Employers, awarded by Military Times magazine. The award is based on a comprehensive annual ranking of the country’s best employers and organizations with military-connected employment programs, benefits and support efforts.
  • Best of the Best Top Veteran-Friendly Companies, awarded by U.S. Veterans Magazine. The award recognizes companies that open up employment, business and supplier opportunities for veterans, transitioning service members, disabled veterans, spouses and veteran business owners.
  • VETS Indexes 5 Star Employer, awarded by VETS Indexes. The award recognizes employers’ commitment to recruiting, hiring, retaining, developing and supporting military-connected employees.

“United Rentals has a strong focus on veterans because of the leadership, teamwork and discipline they bring to all that they do,” said Craig Pintoff, executive vice president, United Rentals. “These awards reflect our belief that individuals with military backgrounds have tremendous experience to offer our company and ultimately our customers.”
