Bipartisan infrastructure bill passes key vote

Aug. 01, 2021

The U.S. Senate voted last week to take up a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill. The bill, which passed with a 67-to-32 vote, will face many additional steps.

“This bipartisan proposal is a long way from becoming law, but a Senate agreement and the vote to proceed is a necessary first step,” says John McClelland, Ph.D., American Rental Association (ARA) vice president for government affairs and chief economist. “An agreement that secures 67 votes thereby avoiding a filibuster sets the stage for making a major and long overdue investment in the nation’s infrastructure. Once legislative language is developed and the bill passes the Senate, it will go to the House of Representatives for consideration. This process could still take months but this bipartisan Senate agreement and cloture vote is a milestone in the process.”
