Texas rental operation meets the challenges of a fire followed by a pandemic

Feb. 28, 2021

The team at Texas-based Peerless Events and Tents, with locations in Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and Houston, had just finished a great management retreat and team-building session. Everyone was revved for a strong year ahead. Then, on the morning of Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, one phone call changed everything.

“I woke up to a call from our general manager in Dallas saying that we had a fire at our 50,000-sq.-ft. warehouse. It was an electrical fire that caused our entire warehouse to be filled with smoke and damaged much of our inventory,” says Will Wright, CEO.

Soon thereafter, Wright called Matt Cosby, founder and vice president, who was away on vacation.

“My urgency was having Will get up there to assess, and if I needed to get on a flight I would fly back home. He told me, ‘No. We need to do this without you. We need to figure this out. Enjoy your vacation because when you come back, there will probably be a little bit of work,’” says Cosby, who serves as Area 2 director on the Texas Rental Association board.
