Peer Advice: How do you keep your staff busy during the slow season?

Feb. 28, 2021

Q: The winter months can be a slower time for many rental operations. How are you keeping your staff busy during this time of year?

A: Dan Fielitz, president, General Rent-All, Massillon, Ohio, and ARA of Ohio president

This is the time of the year when we get a chance to catch our breath, so to speak. We have the opportunity to complete a full “winter service” on our equipment, which means undertaking more in-depth and meticulous inspections of all our rental equipment. In addition to the typical fluid changes, we inspect, repair and/or replace belts, pulleys, chains, sprockets, bearings, cables, decals and, in some cases, repaint rental items. Since mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) require annual inspections, we try to load all of those into this time of the year as well.
