Trailers are common items at many rental operations, but ARA Insurance Agent Tom Rensch, CIC, warns against rental operators and their employees growing complacent when it comes to trailer safety procedures. If the trailer is not hooked up properly, if the wrong hitch ball is used or the trailer is not loaded properly, the results could be disastrous.
“I think members need to embrace the fact that there is potential for a catastrophic claim any time someone leaves their lot with a trailer if it is not properly secured. That is why there needs to be continual training and follow up,” says Rensch, consultant, Cornerstone Insurance Group, St. Louis.
To help rental operators keep trailer safety top of mind, Rensch asks a lot of questions and reviews the trailer procedures of his rental store clients. Read these questions in the February Safety Issue of Rental Management magazine.
