Setting up trailer maintenance and service schedules

Trailers are common items in most every rental yard. They often are used to deliver equipment or are rented by customers for various jobs. Either way, they can face a lot of wear and tear. To keep a trailer working safely, regular maintenance and service is required.

The inspection, service and maintenance summary chart on this page outlines the services that are required during each use or every month. This chart also should be reviewed every three, six and 12 months. Following these guidelines can extend the time the trailer is safely in use and on rent.

Full trailer maintenance information can be found in the “Trailer Maintenance System Guide” from the American Rental Association (ARA). This guide — which is complimentary to ARA members — covers a variety of topics including preventative maintenance, what to consider when buying a trailer, service procedures and more.
