Safety was the real target at the Shooting Range & Safety Training event

Members of the Mississippi equipment and event rental community got together on Feb. 15 for some hands-on shooting range action and education to make their organizations safer in the event of an active shooter situation.

The ARA of Mississippi’s “Shooting Range & Safety Training” event was hosted at The Range By Jimmy Primos in Madison, Miss., where John Douglas from Foulkon Group Tactical presented ideas, theories and tactics to recognize and keep yourself and others safe during an active shooter situation.

Attendees also had the opportunity to shoot at the range with local gun experts.

The event was the first live, face-to-face ARA of Mississippi gathering since before the pandemic, and those who attended were glad to be back in front of their peers.

“It was great to get back to in-person events,” says Matt Pare, regional account manager with Aztec Tents and an ARA of Mississippi board member. “The setting at Jimmy Primos was perfect, the educational session from John Douglas was informative and the food was delicious. And as a bonus, we got to blow off some steam by shooting some guns in a safe environment. I’m already looking forward to the next event.”

Longtime American Rental Association (ARA) state chapter participant Scott Miller, who handles accounts in Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas for independent manufacturer’s representative Lew Hudson Sales, says the blend of the evening’s subject matter and shooting range activity was a welcome change of pace from more commonly seen offerings.

“I really like the idea of doing something different, and this was different — it was a breath of fresh air,” Miller says. “I serve on the ARA of Louisiana board, and I’ve already reached out to them about possibly doing this in conjunction with one of our meetings someday.”
