Hello, Region Six members.
Many of us are just back from The ARA Show™ in Las Vegas. It was, for sure, a different kind of year at the show, but a great time was had by those of us who made the trip. It was great to see so many industry friends together in one place after what we all have been through in the 20 months since the last show. Now it’s back to facing our common enemy of the moment — staffing shortages.
I recently had the opportunity to visit several event rental companies in the region with James Auerbach, the American Rental Association (ARA) vice president, event segment. In our conversations with these folks, staffing was by far their No. 1 issue. Business for all has been good, but these companies have been turning away jobs because they just don’t have the staff to meet clients’ needs.
How do we fix this? I’m not completely sure, but the ARA Job Board is a great place to start. The job board was designed to help those of us in the equipment and event rental industry who are struggling to fill open positions. ARA members also can take advantage of five free 90-day job postings. The listings on the ARA Job Board are pushed to tech schools’ job boards, plus Careerbuilder.com, Military.com, Google Jobs and Facebook Jobs. That means a lot of eyes will see your posted openings. Check out the ARA Job Board here.
I have visited — both virtually and in-person — a few ARA state chapter meetings in the region during the summer and fall and am delighted to see these continuing to bounce back. These events are both socially stimulating and educational on a business level, and I urge you to participate when you can. Find details on upcoming happenings at the Calendar of Events under the “Connect” tab at ARArental.org.
Finally, I want to acknowledge the ARA Foundation, The Toro Company Foundation, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the ARA of Minnesota for organizing the Community Impact improvement project at Fort Snelling State Park on Sept. 14-15. Special thanks go to the nine Minnesota rental businesses and manufacturer/suppliers who donated the equipment and volunteer labor and made it a success. Read more about it in this issue of In Your Region. Way to go, everyone!
Until next time, stay healthy and keep a Clean. Safe. Essential. rental operation.
