Greenleaf is ready to contribute to the ARA of Maine

Troy Greenleaf, president, General Rental Center, Old Town, Maine, has joined the ARA of Maine board of directors.

General Rental Center is an independently owned and operated equipment rental business that was established in 1983. "We Rent Most Everything!” is the company’s motto, and this is seen in the breadth of the construction, industrial, and lawn and garden equipment it maintains in its inventory.

Greenleaf, a third-generation rental owner, brings 30 years of experience in both equipment and party rentals — as well as know-how gained from 12 years in the manufacturing sector — to the ARA of Maine board. He looks forward to working alongside longtime industry contacts while bringing a fresh perspective to the team.

“I have some friends on the board I go back a ways with — Dan Morris [of Kennebec Equipment Rental Co.], Ted Caruso [of Taylor Rental/Party Plus] and Bridget Barasel [of B & S Sales]. I saw the opportunity that they were looking for board members. I had considered joining the board in 2018, but I didn’t want to make a time commitment I couldn’t honor. At the time, I got a big opportunity to get some training with the SBA [Small Business Administration], and I ended up doing that,” Greenleaf says.

Armed with elite business training credentials and having recently finished up a succession project that saw him gain ownership of General Rental Center, Greenleaf is now ready to devote attention to serving his rental association at the state level.

“We just finished up the transition from my parents to me as far as ownership of the company, and we’re making some big changes as a result,” he says. “I also went through the SBA Emerging Leaders program, which they call a ‘streetwise MBA.’ That was a very good, unique peer networking type of thing — very eye-opening and informative, and a great thing for me. So, I just thought it would be a good time for me to get involved [on the ARA of Maine board] and offer my perspective. I feel have a little bit to offer.”

During his time on the board, Greenleaf hopes to leverage the resources of the state chapter to bring about relief in some key areas of concern.

“I think there’s some big training things we can accomplish. And probably the biggest thing right now for me and everybody else is the labor shortage. Some people I know well locally have used some trade schools here. Maybe we can approach that on an association level and come up with a way to get involved in that type of endeavor,” he says.
