This past spring, a familiar face returned to the ARA of Pennsylvania board of directors.
John D. Makrias, manager, A&R Rental Center, York, Pa., a past board member who also has served two terms as board president, rejoined the team to lend his experience by filling a vacant position.
Locally-owned-and-operated A&R Rental Center provides equipment rentals covering all segments. The company has been an American Rental Association (ARA) member since its establishment in 1967.
Makrias has been involved in rental for most of his life. He progressed from helping with the family business when he was younger to becoming seriously involved in 2012 as the human resources manager. His duties have included everything from managing delivery schedules and other operation control issues to setting up tents and loading customer orders. Makrias holds a general bachelor’s degree with focuses in psychology, sociology and business.
Legislative advocacy is important to Makrias. In addition to coordinating ARA of Pennsylvania’s involvement in National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Small Business Day events in Harrisburg, he has voiced the concerns of Pennsylvania rental operators on Capitol Hill as a participant in ARA’s National Legislative Caucus in Washington, D.C.
Makrias is a member of ARA’s Young Professional Network, has attended the association’s Leadership Conference and in 2015 was named one of the “10 to Watch Under 40” by Rental Management magazine.
