State and Local Association OverviewThe reach of the American Rental Association and your membership benefits extend from the national and international level to the state and even local areas. ARA and its state and local associations have the resources to connect you with the people, products and information to help you stay up to date on industry issues. State and local associations provide solutions to common rental industry issues that affect all businesses. State associations often focus on addressing state legislative issues, but also provide many other benefits, such as keeping you up to date on industry information through newsletters, meetings and social events. Local associations tend to focus more on addressing education and training programs and social events through monthly member meetings. Geographically, ARA divides the United States and Canada into 10 regions. Each region has a numerous state and local associations within it, with every association driven by members who have given their time and expertise to lead and provide programs and services to benefit members close to home. Currently, there are more than 40 state associations, more than 20 local associations and seven Canadian provincial associations. Each of these associations has its own officers, board of directors and committee structure. State AssociationsState associations are subsidiaries of ARA and all represent a single state. ARA has a dual general membership policy for participating ARA State Associations wherein national membership includes state association membership when dues are paid to ARA from general members operating businesses in participating states. This dual membership provides your state association with additional revenue, as well as added benefits for you at a local level. All general members of state associations are required to be members of ARA. The state association dual membership policy does not apply to ARA branches or associate members; however, both are encouraged to participate in state associations. The state association board of directors generally establishes separate membership dues for branches and associate members. Local AssociationsLocal associations are independent affiliates of ARA and are designed to serve membership within a specific geographical area. Examples of a local association include The Associated Rental Stores of Kansas City and The Greater Cincinnati Tool Rental Association. Each local association board of directors establishes their membership dues for general, branch and associates. Although ARA membership is encouraged to participate in a local association, it is not a requirement. Provincial Associations
The Rental Association of Canada
(RAC) serves members and needs specific to Canada within its seven provincial
associations. RAC members are automatically members of ARA and their
participating provincial association. For more information on provincial
associations, call RAC at 800/486-9899 or click here.
