Introduction Module

Provides a solid overview of safety procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) and load-securing hardware. Objectives of this module are to:

  • Establish the importance of safety.
  • Understand the required safety equipment to use.
  • Identify a properly equipped vehicle.
  • Recognize load-securing hardware.

Loading of Equipment Module

Covers the steps involved to properly load equipment, including a review of basic vehicle terminology and calculations for cargo capacity. Objectives of this module are to:

  • Properly size both the equipment and delivery vehicle to help ensure safe transport.
  • Ensure the correct equipment has been selected for loading.
  • Inspect the loading site for hazards.
  • Recognize industry best practices for loading various pieces of equipment.
  • Review proper placement of the equipment on the vehicle.
  • Establish a safe loading zone.

Load Securement Module

Explains what is involved to properly secure a load, including a review of tie-down hardware, designated tie-down points and the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations that govern load securement. Objectives of this module are to:

  • Explain the proper load securement for various equipment applications.
  • Identify the proper tie-down hardware for securing equipment.
  • Recognize the manufacturers’ designated tie-down points.
  • Recognize the designated attachment points on trucks and trailers.
  • Understand and explain the DOT regulations governing proper load securement.
  • Explain and perform final load-securement safety checks.

Unloading of Equipment Module

Reviews the step-by-step procedures for safely unloading equipment. Objectives of this module are to:

  • Explain proper unloading procedures.
  • Recognize safety guidelines for unloading.

Delivery to the Customer’s Site Module

Reviews the procedures to follow while delivering equipment to the customer’s site. Objectives of this module are to:

  • Explain proper protocol while on the customer’s site.
  • Understand basic customer service standards.
  • Recognize importance of equipment handover and safety instructions to be given to the customer.
  • Realize the importance of the rental contract in the transaction process.

Pickup from the Customer’s Site Module

Discusses the steps required to complete a successful rental transaction. Objectives of the module are to:

  • Observe PPE and safety protocols while on the customer’s site.
  • Perform an equipment inspection.
  • Handle damaged equipment.
  • Deal with equipment still in use or not available

Customer Service Module

Highlights good communication techniques for interacting with a wide variety of people. Objectives of the module are to:

  • Understand your role in the rental transaction process.
  • Know the importance of a professional appearance of both your delivery vehicle and yourself.
  • Be aware of why you need to maintain a positive and professional attitude.
  • Realize the importance of good communications skills.
  • Know how to deal with customer complaints and damaged equipment.

DOT Overview Module

Provides an overview of the various regulations drivers should be aware of to avoid a citation. Objectives of the module are to:

  • Understand basic U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations pertaining to commercial vehicles and commercial drivers.
  • Define driver commercial licensing requirements and qualifications.
  • Follow DOT Hours-of-Service rules and reporting.
  • Understand the importance of required vehicle inspections.
     

On-the-Road Safety Module

Covers practices that will keep you, your equipment and the public safe while in transit. Objectives of the module are to:

  • Explain why the use of seat belts and mirrors are critical.
  • Identify the key components to defensive driving.
  • Understand the importance of anticipation and avoiding distractions while driving.
  • Recognize why special attention needs to be paid to pedestrians and cyclists.
