Foundation Scholarship Program | Affiliate Scholarships





 

Affiliate Scholarships

The ARA Foundation administers scholarships for several affiliated organizations. All applicants who meet a scholarship's qualifications are automatically considered for an affiliate scholarship there is no separate application process.
 

ARA Insurance

One scholarship of $2,500 will be awarded by ARA Insurance to an applicant who works for an ARA Insurance-insured business or who has a family member that works for an ARA Insurance-insured business. Additional criteria for applying are the same as for the Foundation scholarships.
 

ARA of California

New for 2012/2013, ARA of California will award one $1,000 scholarship to a student associated with a rental operation based in the state. The criteria for applying are the same as for the ARA Foundation scholarships.
 

ARA of Michigan

ARA of Michigan will award four scholarships of $500 each to students associated with a rental operation based in Michigan that has been a member of ARA of Michigan for two years.
 

ARA of North Carolina

ARA of North Carolina will award one $1,000 scholarship to a student associated with a rental operation based in the state that has been a member of ARA of North Carolina for a minimum of two years. The criteria for applying are the same as for the Foundation scholarships.
 

ARA of Ohio

Six scholarships of $750 each will be awarded by ARA of Ohio. Eligibility requirements include:

  • The applicant must be associated with a rental operation based in Ohio that has been a member of the ARA of Ohio for the last two consecutive years and is a member in good standing by being a family member, a current employee (including owners and managers) with at least two years’ experience or a family member of a current employee with at least two years’ experience.
     
  • The applicant must be pursuing an education applicable to the rental industry at an accredited university, college, community college or technical school; or be pursuing a vocational or certification program affiliated with a university, college, community college or technical school. Part-time attendance will be considered if the number of hours attending school is significant and total costs conform to the amount of the award. 
       

Texas Rental Association

Five scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded to students associated with a rental operation based in Texas. The criteria for applying are the same as for the Foundation scholarships.


Texas Rental Association/Bill Loomer Houston Area Rental Association Scholarship

New for 2012/2013, this $1,000 scholarship is for a student associated with a rental operation based in Texas. The criteria for applying are the same as for other Foundation scholarships.

Bill Loomer Jr. was the owner of Clear Creek Equipment in Webster, Texas. He was very active in the Texas Rental Association, including serving as president, and also was an ARA volunteer. He died in March 2006.
 

Ron Marshall Scholarships/ARA Region Two

ARA Region Two offers two $500 Ron Marshall Scholarships just for students within the region – one for technical/vocational school students and one for college/university students.

Ron Marshall was the owner of Reading Rentals in Reading, Pa., until his death in October 1995. He was active in the Keystone Rental Association and ARA’s Region Two.

The criteria for the Ron Marshall Scholarships are the same as for the ARA Foundation scholarship program.
 

Doug Mitchell Scholarship/ARA Region 10 - Canada

This scholarship is in memory of Doug Mitchell, past president of the Canadian Rental Association (CRA) and active volunteer in CRA, CRA Saskatchewan and ARA. He was an owner of The Rent-It Store in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, until his death in July 2010.

This US$1,000 scholarship is specifically for a student affiliated with a Canadian associate member business, due to Mitchell's instrumental role in organizing the yearly CRA Prairie Trade Show.


Dorothy Wellnitz Scholarship/ARA Region 10 - Canada

The US$1,000 scholarship is named for Dorothy Wellnitz, former executive director of the Canadian Rental Association.

The scholarship has been awarded since 2007. The criteria for the Dorothy Wellnitz Scholarship and the application are the same as for the ARA Foundation scholarship program.
